Overview
Mangrove Hike, Lunch and Canoe
You enter the mangrove on foot, through shallow water, between roots and tides. The ecosystem changes shape with the tide and the time of day. The water level, the light, the sounds are never exactly the same. Along the way we share what we know about this place: the species, how the trees breathe, why this coastline works the way it does. About halfway through, we stop at a calm spot in the creek for a swim, fresh coconut or local fruit, and a moment to simply be there. Before continuing, you plant a mangrove seedling in a restoration zone, a small and concrete contribution to the place you just walked through. The experience continues with lunch at a quiet open-air spot just above the creek, where the tables face the water. The food is freshly prepared with local Swahili flavors, mainly seafood. After eating, instead of walking back, a local guide arrives by traditional wooden canoe and takes you back through the channels to where you started. You finish the half-day having walked through the mangrove, eaten beside it, and floated back across it.
